The differences in how the Maori and the pakeha viewed the treaty of Waitangi.

Differences in how Maori and Pakeha viewed the Treaty of Waitangi
Through Pakeha Eyes
Through Maori Eyes
was just a piece of paper with some signatures on it.
seen as a spiritual relationship between Queen Victoria and the Maori chiefs.
A way to get the maori to be quiet and out of their way.
A way to stop the pakeha from destroying their land.
So they can get the land for free.
So they can stop war and loss of land.
A bunch of lies on paper to get their way easily.
fair land right agreements and fair trading.
Anything they want in new zealand as an agreement.
for the pakeha to only get what they want when they asked and got permission.
A new start for them and their families with more land and more land for more money.
The pakehas not bothering them for their land any more.
all rights and powers of sovereignty over the maori’s land.
the pakeha having no right to come on their land or take it without the maoris agreeing.
